First version of a new song that sounds half decent for what it is, but i've gotta evolve the beat a bit more. It also gets a bit cluttered at the end imo, so i'll work on that too.

http://filebox.me/view/euyqtz2r1

As you can probably tell, I'm having troubles in thinking up good endings for tracks like this. That's something I've definitely gotta do. Please note that I posted it this early in here so i can get some recommendations constructive criticism and input whilst its being made.

Edit: V3 Is posted in a lower post Very Happy

Loved the intro.
Thought the middle chorus went on too long.
And yes near the end it got a little offbeat.

Keep working on it though, it sounds pretty good.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, there is still much to be done with the song, which is why 'nothing' happened, because I haven't thought of something to happen yet, because thinking of one that works isn't an easy task. I guess i'll just try random things and hope they work.

This is a LOT better than the stuff you posted earlier. At least the intro is. I can't really come up with any good ideas atm, but keep trying.

Beginning's awesome.

You should scrap the melodies that come in later and try again... They sound random.

Yeah, was thinking of doing that. Its just hard to think of a way to continue a build-up like that.

Edit: Here's just the intro by itself.

http://filebox.me/view/7r8vvn1kx

Should I leave it as-is and try to continue from there?

Yeah it felt as though the song was in three parts, and the three parts were all from different songs. None of it really flowed.

Thanks for the feedback. Here's version two, I've gotta change a few of the instrument levels, but it sounds cool-ish.

http://filebox.me/view/0620udvi4

Update: New version (Version 3 to be specific) with an epic outro.

Lol that Edirol Orchestra Percussion sounds copy and pasted and very unnatural. I don't know, I'm not a fan of your music. Definitely better than the last thing I heard you make though.

It sounds like the A3 Trombone sustain lasts 4 measures when it would sound a lot better lasting only two. Also there is only one octave of the A3, making it sound hollow and fake.

VST guitars never sound good.

Thanks for the feedback Smile

Should i try shortening the trombone bit at the start? And what do you mean by "octave"?

And about the guitars, I had to up the beat a bit and it was the best I could come up with.

Would you kindly shut the fuck up unless you have something constructive to say?

Oh, and also, for me having made it it is epic, due to me not being able to make music that sounds half(Or a third, even)-decent when this track currently does for homemade digital music.

I modified the first couple of seconds to show you what I mean:
http://filebox.me/view/a406bvqrt

Interesting note: Apparently FLStudio didn't like the song as it killed itself a few seconds in, so I couldn't get past the first part.

The problem is your songs lack depth and the transition from one section to another are not handled very well.

Also in the piano roll for the trombone, make sure the Volume is set to full as it actually empowers the instrument, not just raises the volume.

A simple way to add depth is just add a duplicate of your song an octave lower. As you gain experience you'll realize sometimes you can completely change a bass note and it actually sounds better than just an octave lower.

Octave lower? Duplicate? I'm lost already. Does Octave mean Layer? I mainly learned FL Studio just by playing around with it, so I kind of don't know its jargon, and a lot of its cool features. Maybe we should get on MSN sometime, and you can help me get better so i can score my movies and such.

An octave of a note is just a different pitch of the same note. You can see this labeled in the piano roll by E3, E2, where E3 is an E note of octave 3 and E2 is an E note of octave 2.

A measure is essentially one group of notes that you most likely repeat. Most likely a "pattern" in FL Studio.

These aren't FL Studio terms, they are general music terms. You can't make good music without knowing about actual music.

Here is what I mean with simple depth - the first four measures are a simple increasing note pattern on two octaves. The last four measures are an increasing note pattern with a decreasing bass.

The depth is better but the notes don't match up at all, making it sound like a bunch of random stuff.

The difference between a 'dark' and 'bright' song are solely in the notes (and maybe percussion.)

Or hey, are there any good tutorials on how to make good music, with tips and advice etc?

To make a "bright" song you need to use appropriate chords.

http://filebox.me/view/zsep6xz8u

Use the 'Chord' feature of the piano roll and start experimenting. A common "bright" pattern is a Major note, a minor note, then two majors.

So, try making a Major chord anywhere, then putting a Minor after it, a few notes down. See if it sounds good. Then, put another Major next, but put it higher than the first major chord. Just experiment.

Edit: Don't bother dealing with the chords that arent circled until you understand music better.
